Here is where you can find out everything you want to know about the beaver section.

Upcoming events:

Beaver Scouts are young people usually aged between six and eight years old. They belong to the first and youngest Section in the Scouting family. Young people can join Beaver Scouts in the three months leading up to their sixth birthday. They can move to the next Section, Cub Scouts, between seven years and six months and eight years six months.

Easily recognised by their distinctive turquoise sweatshirts, Beaver Scouts enjoy making friends, playing games, going on visits and helping others. They usually meet together once a week in a Beaver Scout Colony.

Some Beaver Scout Colonies also organise Sleepovers. These are often the first time a young person spends a night away from home. They take place in suitable buildings, often Scout centres.

All members of the Scout association are required to make a promise which they must learn and understand.

The Beaver Scout Motto is - "Be Prepared"

THE BEAVER PROMISE

I promise to do my best,
To be kind and helpful,
And to love God

Beaver Scout Law

There is no formal Beaver Scout Law. The concepts expressed in the Scout Law are to be presented to Beaver Scouts through games, storytelling and other informal activities.

UNIFORM

Once invested the Group's policy on uniform is that the boys must have the official Beaver sweatshirt (turquoise), group T-shirt and navy blue trousers/shorts with the group neckerchief.

The following items are optional: a turquoise polo shirt, a navy blue baseball cap, a grey fleece and a navy waterproof.

All these items can be ordered through the Group, using the order form, purchased at the Scout Shop held on Tuesday evenings during term time from 8pm-9pm at Hopehill, Meopham or from Longfield Wools in the St. George's Centre, Gravesend.

The Balanced Programme

The philosophy underpinning the programme is that every Beaver Scout should participate in a Balanced Programme over a period of time. The emphasis has shifted from a badge and award driven culture to one that ensures that all young people experience a quality programme covering a wide range of subjects. To help, the Balanced Programme is divided into a number of Programme Zones, methods and underlying ways of working.

Programme Zones

Programme Zones split the whole programme into manageable areas. Each Zone represents a different development area in a young person's life. There are six Programme Zones in Beaver Scouting. They are:

The twelve methods

These Zones are delivered using 12 methods, which give the programme variety and range. Sometimes one method will be more suitable than another. On occasions you may use a number of methods within the same activity. So you should give your Beaver Scouts opportunities to:

  • Help others
  • Play games
  • Explore their world
  • Undertake prayer and worship
  • Listen to stories
  • Follow themes
  • Go on visits
  • Make things
  • Meet new people
  • Act, sing and make music
  • Chat
  • Go outdoors

The Bottom Line

The Bottom Line are those things that anyone walking into your Colony meeting would see happening. You should give your Beaver Scouts opportunities to:

  • Have fun
  • Make friends
  • Try new things
  • Keep the Promise
  • Make progress
  • Share in groups
